New Director

The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne (Germany) invites applications from outstanding scientists for the position as Director (m/f/div).

The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing ( was established in Cologne in 2008 with the overall goal to uncover the basic causes and processes of ageing. We strive to understand the nature of longevity and age-related diseases by examining underlying molecular, physiological and evolutionary mechanisms, with a strong focus on metabolic processes. In addition, we investigate how the ageing process might be ameliorated to pave the way towards increasing health during ageing in humans. Together with our local and regional partners we are advancing our knowledge of the ageing process using a combination of innovative approaches, state-of-the-art technologies and a wide range of model systems. The institute building is optimally situated on the University of Cologne campus, with the Cologne Cluster of Excellence for Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases, the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne, the Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research and University Hospital Cologne in the close vicinity.

We now seek to recruit one director with a strong research programme in ageing and age-associated diseases, which complements ongoing multidisciplinary research at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing and the Cologne campus.

Chief criteria for directors are scientific and scholarly excellence and an innovative and unique research programme. The institute is looking for the strongest and most creative scientists, and offers an excellent international research environment operating in the English language, outstanding infrastructure, and longterm scientific funding. Candidates with an outstanding track record and research programme are encouraged to contact the Managing Director Prof. Dr. Thomas Langer for further information.

Applications will be held in confidence and should contain a full CV including a complete list of publications, a brief summary of research accomplishments, a description of future goals and names of three to five referees.

The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality and welcomes applications from all backgrounds. We encourage applications from persons with disabilities.
