About Elly' s talk:
The capability to regenerate entire body parts is observed in some animals. Although they have the same basic bodyplan as other tetrapods, salamanders can regenerate many bodyparts including limbs and the primary body axis. I will discuss two examples where the study of regeneration has uncovered previously unknown mechanisms in developmental patterning and cell signaling that occur during regeneration. These results show that regeneration biology is a discovery platform for novel biologies related to tissue reconstruction.
