For an Open and Tolerant Society
Statement by the Max Planck Institutes in Cologne
At the Max Planck Institutes in Cologne, people from different countries and cultures work together to perform cutting-edge research. This diversity is our strength. Our international staff are a mainstay of our work and enrich our community.
We recruit international specialists and invest heavily in their training. We support their studies and research. We want them to feel at home and have prospects in Germany after their time with us.
That is why it is particularly important for the Max Planck Institutes in Cologne to take a firm stand against right-wing extremism and anti-immigration sentiment. We are appalled by current developments and do not accept them. We stand for an open society and tolerance and are committed to democracy, human dignity and the rule of law. We strongly condemn any form of discrimination and racism.
We need an open and tolerant society - not only science benefits from it, but we all do.
